Are you aware of the fact that when using a ride on lawn mower you can be a danger to yourself and the people around you. Even if you hve been using the thing for many summers it does not mean that you are doing everything by the book and that you or the people nearby are safe. There are a lot of injuries that could happen and the worse kind of accidents related to ride on lawn mowers are blade contact and the loss of stability. There are a lot of studies that have counted the numbers of accidents that have happened due to tractor mowers and unexperienced users and the numbers were frightening.

These numbers don't seem to vary between electric and gas powered ride on mowers which means that speeding is not a factor here. It is important to keep your mower in a good condition for it to be safe. Attention should be taken when maintaining your mower.

Usually the injuries happen when it is the prime season for mower use. That is why you should constantly maintain your mower. You should know that the power of a tractor mower is enough to amputate hands and legs. Keep it in mind when you are cleaning the blades while the mower is powered on! You should always switch the main power switch off before doing any mainenance operations on your lawn mower.

If something unexpected happens you should always shut the mower down. Kill the power and then examine what happend. If you hear a noise that should not be there. Shut it down and examine. Don't keep the mower running and go look for the problem. The user manuals will normally list the proper actions for different situations. Read the users manual of your mower for safety reasons. If not for your own safety, then for the safety of the others.

Before and after using the mower it is important to check the mower for any defects. Try every nut and bolt to see if they are tight. The shaking of a ride on lawn mower can really loosen the bolts which could lead to serious problems. Clean the machine and check the brakes. That way you will avoid most of the accidents related to crashing the mower. Remember that while cleaning the blades, proper gloves should always be used as the blades are sharp and might cut you.
